Welcome!

Thanks for visiting my website. I've been writing plays on and off for the last 15 years. During that time, I've had 80-plus productions and staged readings of my plays in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia and Singapore.

I've been fortunate to win a number of national awards and contests. In the U.S., my drama, Guided Tour, garnered me the Stanley Drama Award and the Arthur W. Stone New Play Award. In 2015, The Draft, a play that explores the real-life experiences of young Americans with the military draft during the Vietnam War, was nominated for two Best New Play awards by local critics after its Boston premiere and won for Best Ensemble. I'm a two-time winner of the New Play Festival of Centre Stage-South Carolina with Guided Tour and Identity Crisis.

And I was first past the post with Orbiting Mars and I'm Not at Liberty To Say in the new play contests of the Santa Cruz Actors' Theatre and Boston's Alarm Clock Theatre respectively. In 2013/14, I was Visiting Playwright at Hibernian Hall, a multicultural performing arts center in Roxbury, MA which produced four of my plays: Raising David Walker, Identity Crisis, Guided Tour, and The Draft.

I've also had some success with my short plays. Short+Sweet Theatre, based in Australia, gave me an Artist Recognition award for my most popular short play, My Name is Art. The piece has been performed at Short+Sweet festivals in four Australian cities and in Singapore. Another of my short plays, Perfect Strangers, won the 2012 International Short Play Contest at the Stratford Fringe Festival in Stratford-Upon-Avon in the U.K.

I've been grateful for the support I've received over the years to develop my skills and instincts as a playwright. This has included a Playwriting Fellowship from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and a residency at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. (I'll be back there for a second residency in 2017.)

On this site, you can download all but one of my short plays for free. Click on the purchase tab if you decide to produce them. (The exception is Perfect Strangers, which is available directly from Heuer Publishing). You can also read the synopses and download free excerpts of my full-length plays. Please contact me if you'd like to see a complete script.

Happy browsing!

Cheers,

Peter
